The vision of The Witchen
🎨 Collage: Justine Anweiler, The Witchen, 2025.
I started dreaming about The Witchen 3 years ago.
A place where food, adventure, and ceremony could come together in unity and grace.
Although uncertain of its full expression, I have tried my best to honour what is being birthed, and yet for so long, I have stubbornly looked the other way.
I have looked almost exclusively in the direction of what was known, and for so long I have heard the whispers in my other ear. I stayed looking at what I knew had ended because it had the scent of familiarity, redundancy, and comfort – it was clear.
But in December, I felt in my bones that I could no longer look away because the vision of The Witchen is not subsiding.
She is calling.
She is dangerous.
She is unknown.
The vision is the same:
A cabin at the edge of the woods. Where the forest meets the mountains. In the mist she stands. A woman who lives off the land, whom seekers come to seek. Uncertain if she is real or just another myth; they come. They climb, they grovel, they sweat, they doubt – and still they come – on the hike that promises answers.
She does not give them the answers, but rather they find the space needed for them in their lengthy pursuit. In their surrender to the elements and blind faith that she will feed them.
She greets and welcomes them into the space that will hold them for the meal. Together they harvest, they prepare, they cook. Friendship is not freely given, neither are words, neccessarily, but gathering is guaranteed.
It is not “come as you should be”
BUT … “arrive as you are.”
The food is from the land. It nourishes. It tastes of their pilgrimage. The elements so infused in the food, the land can’t not heal the one who consumes her offerings. What is being served is what is needed. They trust that. She knows that.
💚 Where there is food, there is medicine.
🩵 Where there is adventure, there is breath.
❤️ Where there is ceremony, there is art.
✨ Where there is The Witchen there is magic ✨
